Dr Martin Bell's tips for living with asthma

Medical expert Dr Martin Bell delivers some top tips for living with asthma.

  • If you're allergic to the droppings of the house dust mite, try hoovering your mattress and turning it over regularly. Putting your blankets and sheets in the freezer is also said to be a good way of getting rid of mites!
  • If someone you're with is having a bad asthma attack and gasping for breath, don't take any chances – call an ambulance. A person having a severe asthma attack needs medical attention quickly.
  • Don't assume you have to give up sports like swimming after being diagnosed with asthma. Regular exercise helps keep you fit and healthy, so seek advice from your GP or asthma nurse - they will encourage you to carry on with your normal physical activities as far as possible.
