Presenter - Hello and thanks for joining us. My name is Glen Thomset. Today we're talking fitness. Now summer is almost upon us – sunny days, picnics in the park, days down by the beach. Are you one of those sorts of people who likes to relax in the sunshine, expose a bit more of the flesh – you know, the wobbly arms, bit of a tyre round the midriff? If you are but you're frightened of showing your body, don't worry, we're going to try and help you tone up today if we can.

Presenter - The UK is one of the countries in Europe that is leading the way in the obesity stakes, so what are we going to do about it, how are we going to get ourselves back into shape? Obesity is rising tenfold across the UK, so how do we start to get into shape? Are you a little bit self-conscious of exposing your exercising routine and regime in the gym in front of other people? If so, don't be, we've got some interesting theories for you today on the programme that really are going to help you to get trim and into that nice shape that you've been wanting to get into for a long time. Personal trainer Lucy Wyndham-Read joins us today on the programme.

Presenter - Lucy, It's an age-old question for people, isn't it – obesity, fatness, how do I get trim and, more to the point, how do I stay trim? But why is this the time of year that we're all thinking about wanting to get fit?

Lucy - I think as you said, you know, we're wearing different outfits now, aren't we? In the winter it's great because we can hide underneath big jumpers and stuff, whereas now we want to be out feeling comfortable, especially for women – short sleeve tops, stomachs, wearing shorts etc – so, you know, you want to be able to look good in your clothes. And a lot of people are going off on holiday so they want to feel comfortable if they're on the beach etc.

Lucy - I think the other thing is you want to make the most of being outdoors, going out and having a run in the park or going out for a nice, long stroll. It's a really motivating time of year to get fit as well, because it's nice to be able to get up and go for a nice walk, and we tend to eat differently as well, we're more into having sort of salads so our diet tends to be better, plus we tend to drink more water.

Presenter - We also tend to BBQ, don't we, sausages and burgers, and we might put a few chips on the side of the plate – not good for you!

Lucy - Well no, definitely not. So I think really summer is a great time to start getting into shape, start exercising, moving around, just so you can really then just wear clothes with comfort and know you look good as well.
